GoogleApps for Business is reputed to be cheaper than your average LN user install , many users believe it to have a more modern look and feel and its tools are often considered more uptodate and user friendly and it most definitely has better search functionality built in , so why stay with Lotus Notes when compared with Google? General Motors is a recent convert for example (100,000 notes users).

1) Recent development of the Notes Domino platform includes tools like LotusLive symphony (IBM Docs) to compete with online Google Docs. Online storage (IBM SmartCloud Engage) and the possibility of co-editing of documents in real time are included and the ability to assign users sections to ease the management of multiple revisions by multiple authors. Arguably also the more open development concept in Lotus Notes allows a more business process sensitive and developed approach to the integration of social and business networking sites and the incorporation of SAP feeds for example.
2) Local replication is not a priority for Google as they assume continuous internet connection - this is not true for many salesman in the field and Notes has the advantage for these kinds of workers
3) Relative sophistication of the tools means you are not comparing like for like. LN Domino provides Enterprise level solutions while Google provides solutions that may work out better for individuals or smaller companies with simple business models.
4) The SaaS version of Lotus Domino e.g. LotusLiveiNotes or LotusLiveNotes costs out well compared to the Google alternative and new moves towards a social business model(Vulcan) (didn't Notes invent social networking collaboration in the eighties) mean that Google has no edge here either. Given that the richness and advantage of a Domino Server infrastructure (and application development environment) can potentially be tapped through these cloud based solutions Lotus Notes need only be equal to Google in its UI to have the overall advantage.
5) Legacy applications may be written in Notes and the business logic is too complex to transfer to Google Apps without considerable investment
